Beginning drama is for students in grades 9 through 12 who have not had drama class before. This class focuses on skills from movement and basic vocal work to monologue and scene study. My students are asked to take risks with their emotions everyday and respect for themselves and each other is a key element to them being comfortable to take those risks. In addition to the work we do in class, students are required to spend fifteen (15) hours each semester outside of class on the various productions we will be doing throughout the year. There are many ways this requirement can be fulfilled and postings on those opportunities will be updated on my website throughout the year. This is one of the most rewarding classes students can take in high school. When students are finished with this course they will be better communicators, problem solvers, and active thinkers.
HOMEWORK:
Wednesday, 8/19/15 Me in a bag assignment. Students are to put in a bag 5 objects that some how represent who they are. They will share those five objects with the class as a way for us to get to know them a little bit better. Bags are due on Monday, 8/25/15. UPCOMING ASSIGNMENTS TBD: Character Walks & Intros are due: Walk across the stage as your character would walk, stop when you get to the center, introduce yourself as your character (first and last name) and tell us what you do, then walk off stage. Characters must be original. For example, you can be a super hero, but you can't be Superman or Batman. Character Speech is due: You must do a one minute speech as your character. You may choose from one of the following: 1. Accept an award in character (something your character might win). 2. "What the world needs now..." something your character feels the world needs. 3. Tell us about something in your closet (as your character) - a secret. Obviously you must speak in first person! Rehearse monologues in groups and present for final. Review for Final Test...which will be on Thursday, 12/11. |
